How can I make sure my dog grows up to be good with my children?

I have a Pitt / Husky mix, I have always been so scared to have a Pitt Bull because of my children and I also am scared of them myself, because of all the bad stories I have heard. I went and got a dog from the pound when our last family dog ran away and we couldn't find him. The pound told me it was a Rottweiler and I love this type of dog so I got it thinking it would be really cool that my kids could grow up with one like I did, I then got home and researched it and asked the "VET" which then told me that it was a Pitt/ Husky, by that time I was already in love with it, his name is Puma, well now I am scared to death, that he might turn and be really mean and so I guess my question is HOW DO I RAISE THIS DOG TO MAKE SURE IT IS A GOOD DOG WITH MY FAMILY?
