How did the electoral college used to work and how does it work today?

used to be that the representatives of each state would personally select the president of the US. that's why George Washington won unanimously, cause all representatives liked him. Now, we count the votes of every eligible citizen and they count those up. Each state has a certain number of votes in the EC depending on the states population, so whoever gets the most states in, say, Wyoming, gets 3 votes put to their total and whoever gets to a certain number of EC votes wins the election. That's the main way, there are way more, so do your god damn homework. I had to....
