S corporation or a Sole Proprietorship?

I am planning to start a business in new jersey. Basically i would be the owner and employee of the company. Its basically dealing in import and export. I am confused as to whether register it as a S corporation or a sole proprietorship. Please could you help me in understanding the rules and benefits of the above two. I am not going for an LLC as my liability in this business plan is very limited.
